Onam is an annual harvest festival in kerela, celebrated mainly in Kerala, although celebrations also occur among the diaspora. It is the foremost festival among the cultural repertoire of Malaysia, and falls during the month of Chingam. the first month of the Malayalam calendar and lasts for ten days from the Star Atham in Chingam. Though it is essentially a harvest festival of Malayasis, mythologically it is linked to Malayali-Hindus folktales.
